2021 Festivals in The Great Southern Region

The year 2020 has been hard on us, especially to those who night owls who love going out, experiencing festivals and get-togethers outside the confines of their home. Thankfully, while the threat of Covid-19 still looms over the world, the containment efforts in The Great Southern Region have made it possible for people to venture out and gradually continue their ‘new normal’.

However, this doesn’t mean that people can go in and out of the territory freely. There are strict conditions remaining for interstate and international arrivals, but after meeting those conditions and doing the required quarantine period for international guests, they will be able to freely move around Region.

Festivals to look forward to in 2021

There are a couple of events and festivals already arranged for this coming year for The Southern Region. Regardless of whether you’re travelling interstate or coming from abroad, you will be able to enjoy the festivities in line with the Territory’s COVID-19 health protocols, so make sure to book your hotels and accommodations now. BREC Summer International Film Festival

7 to 31 January 2021

The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre (BREC) is a venue which holds events throughout the year, all while seeking to inspire the next generation of artists and entertainers in the area. This January 7th to 31st, the BREC will be holding their Summer International Film Festival. It aims to bring a wide range of international films to the BREC Cinema.

This event opens on 7 January, with multiple sessions running from Thursday to Sunday. The BREC Cinema will be enforcing social distancing guidelines and requirements, which means that the Cube will be limited and seating is already reserved and allocated. To avoid disappointment, book tickets in advance.

Apart from having the chance to watch great films like Another Round, The County, Adam, The Perfect Candidate, and Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra, people will also be able to enjoy a whole host of other entertainment from live music and tasty treats to conversation clubs after the respective films have aired.

11 to 14 February 2021

The first-ever Pinot Picnic will be held at multiple venues across Pemberton and Manjmup from 11 to 14 February. This beautiful event will showcase local premium Pinot wines and Artisan Produce from across the area which foodies, wine-lovers, and romantics alike will adore. The full event program will include live entertainment shows, tasting masterclasses, family picnics, wine-matching meals, vineyard experiences, and sensual sparkling soirees.

Nannup Music Festival

26 February to 1 March 2021

The Nannup Music Festival 2021 will take place at the picturesque town of the same name, Nannup, in WA. This event will feature various acts you’ll love to soak up, from Adele Oliver, Art Jam and Coterie, Dan Howls and Fieldsy. Fenn Wilson, Jack Botts, Kim Churchill, Little Georgia, and Loren Kate, among others are pending confirmation (depending on COVID-19 restrictions). However, if you haven’t booked your ticket yet, there’s little chance for you to get in. The tickets for the Nannup Music Festival are all sold out.

One of the best gourmet festivals in the Great Southern region is the Porongurup Festival. Set in the Porongurup Range, this is a fun-filled day guaranteed to make your friends and family enjoy food and activities they will treasure for a long time.

In this event, heaps of community projects, art pieces, produce, and local wines, spirits and beer will be showcased. Locals and visitors alike will get together for a day of indulgence, all for the pre-purchase price of $30. Children under 18 accompanied by adults may enter this event for free.

Taste Great Southern Food & Wine Festival

The Taste Great Southern Food & Wine Festival is all about indulging in the unique and renowned food and wine available in the territory. This is an 11-day event, and its line-up includes local produce tastings, award-winning wine tastings, community markets, long lunches, free events, degustation, and premium pairings, among others.

The Taste Great Southern Food & Wine Festival will be held at various locations in the Great Southern region, including but not limited to Katanning, Walpole, Mt. Barker, Esperance, and the new Centennial Park Exhibition Centre.

You will be able to taste great dishes from 20 chefs, including River Cottage Australia chef, Paul West. Apart from being a festival to liven things up in The Great Southern region, this event also hopes to help local businesses showcase their unique stories, flavours, and cuisines. This 11-day event is expected to bring in more than 6000 people, so, get yourself there too!

Truffle Kerfuffle festival is dedicated to indulging in generous amounts of fresh truffles. During the 3-day event, there will be cooking demonstrations and tasting events together with renowned growers and farmers of Manjimup. This is a 6-part event, featuring the following:

  • Chef’s Cabin – the finest chefs showcase their best truffle dishes to inspire guests
  • Festival Village – a truffle experience for your family
  • Marketplace – where you get to see all the available truffle-laced products
  • Masterclass – learn how to pair drinks and food from the best brewers and makers
  • Truffle Hunts – experience unearthing truffles first-hand
