The Kodja Place is the one stop in Kojonup that most travellers mean to make and then miss, usually because they arrive at ten past four and find the doors shut.
It is the town's visitor centre, its gallery and its story, all in a rammed earth building shaped like a stone axe. Our Attractions page describes what is inside and why it is worth your time. This guide is the practical half: when it is open, what it costs, and how long to give it.
Opening hours
The Kodja Place is at 143 Albany Highway, and it is open seven days a week from 9am to 4pm, closed only on Christmas Day. Last entry to the Kodj Gallery is 3.30pm, which is the detail that catches people out.
If you are driving down from Perth and hoping to see the gallery on the way through, that 3.30pm cutoff is the number to plan around, not the 4pm one.
What it costs
A guided tour of the Kodj Gallery and Storyplace is $10 for an adult, $5 concession or child, and $25 for a family. Groups of fifteen or more are arranged by enquiry with the Visitor Centre on (08) 9831 0500.
There is also a billy tea and damper experience at $5 a head, which needs a minimum of eight people and a day's notice.
Prices and hours were correct when we wrote this in August 2026, and they are not ours to guarantee, so it is worth a quick check with the centre before you build a day around them.
The Rose Maze is free, and always open
This is the part worth knowing if your timing has gone sideways.
The Australian Rose Maze and the Three Women's Stories garden sit outside the building, entry is free with a donation box at the gate, and being outdoors they are accessible at any time. Arrive after closing, or before opening, and the maze is still there.
Every rose in it was bred in Australia between 1900 and 2000. The maze is at its best in November, though some roses flower anywhere from October through to June, and the mosaics, pergolas and the three women's stories themselves are worth walking in any month. Whether anything is actually in bloom on the day you turn up depends on the season and the weather, as it does with everything that grows.
How long to allow
An hour covers the gallery and Storyplace at a reasonable pace. Add half an hour if you want to walk the maze properly rather than loop it, and a bit more if you are going to browse the gift shop, which carries Noongar arts, crafts and books.
Call it ninety minutes to two hours to do the place justice. If you have only twenty minutes, spend them in the maze, because it is free and you will not be watching the clock.
Fitting it into a stop
The Kodja Place also houses the Kojonup Visitor Centre, which makes it the most useful building in town if you are working out what to do next. The staff and volunteers there handle local information and bookings, and it is a recognised Driver Reviver stop with free tea and coffee for drivers.
It is also where you arrange to see the Old Military Barracks, which is not open on demand. If the Barracks is on your list, sort that out here rather than driving up and hoping.
Because the gallery closes at four, the natural shape of a stop is this: arrive in the afternoon, see the gallery before the cutoff, walk the maze in the evening light, and keep the morning for the town's historical walk trail.

Cornwall House Accommodation is on the Albany Highway in the centre of Kojonup, a few minutes along the same road as The Kodja Place. Contactless check-in runs from 2pm and late arrivals are no trouble, which is handy if the gallery cutoff means pushing on a little further than you meant to.
